What is a ransomwear attack?

Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that makes a computer or its files unusable and demands money to release it.

Ransomware is a financially motivated crime that typically works by encrypting files so that they can no longer be used. Criminals then demand a ransom for a digital key needed to unlock the files.
