Note: You need an account with a participating institution to connect to an eduroam service.
To set up your mobile phone, tablet, or laptop to connect to eduroam at an institution:
- Follow the configuration instructions for the institution at which you’re connecting.
- Connect to the eduroam wireless network. The SSID will be eduroam. Log in with your institutional credentials.
- Check the Acceptable Use Policy, typically available on the visited institution’s website.
Find a visited institution
You have these options for finding eduroam visited institutions:
- eduroam’s interactive map shows available WiFi hotspots anywhere in the world. Select a region to start, then zoom in to the area and city you want to check.
- The eduroam Companion app shows available eduroam connections near you, or across the world. It’s available from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
- Manually look up an institution.
Review the Acceptable Use Policy
Each institution decides the acceptable use policy (AUP) for its eduroam networks. These might include restrictions on the type of websites you can visit and standards of online behaviour. An institution might track user activity while you’re connected to their eduroam network. All of this information should be available on a dedicated eduroam page on the institution’s website.
To find an institution’s AUP, you can:
- Type eduroam and the institution name into a search engine. For example, eduroam aarnet.
- Check AARNet’s list of participating institutions (Australia only).
When you’re at a visited institution, you must follow the Acceptable Use Policy for your home institution and the visited institution.
