eduroam is a secure global network access roaming service for research and education users. Wherever you are, your login credentials are validated by your home institution, and access to local intranet or internet services are provided by the visited institution.
eduroam in Australia is brought to you by AARNet.
Available at institutions across Australia and the world
eduroam is available to users at participating institutions worldwide. This means that if you have access to eduroam at your home institution, you can also access eduroam at other institutions, free of charge.
eduroam accounts are provided by organisations that are part of eduroam. Research and educational institutions are eligible to enrol in eduroam as home institutes.
Other organisations – like libraries and airports – offer eduroam network services as visited institutions, but do not provide eduroam accounts.
Terminology
- Home institution: The institution that granted you a login for eduroam. This is sometimes referred to as the identity provider.
- Visited institution: The institution at which you access eduroam. This might be the same as your home institution, and is sometimes referred to as the service provider.
How it works
- Your device connects to the eduroam network at the visited institution.
- eduroam passes your login details to your home institution for authentication.
- If authenticated, the visited institution gives you access to its local intranet or the internet.
Acceptable use policies for eduroam
