Login password
Your login details for CloudStor are the same as your institution AAF login, and are not managed by CloudStor. Contact your institution's service desk to change your institution password.
App passwords
App passwords give you greater control over the devices and apps that access your CloudStor account. Best practice is to have a different app password for each device or app that you connect to CloudStor. This way, if your device is compromised or lost, or you stop using an app, you can delete the app password for it and revoke its access without changing your institute password everywhere.
App passwords compared to sync passwords
You can choose to set a sync password instead of using app passwords. When you use a sync password, CloudStor gives access to any application on any device that has the correct sync password. If your sync password is compromised or shared with other people, CloudStor doesn’t know to block access to new applications accessing your cloud files.
App passwords, on the other hand, are designed specifically to counter this problem. An app password is valid for a single application on a single device. If you want to use the same application on a different device - for example, you have a desktop computer and a laptop - you need to create two different app passwords. This allows CloudStor to more stringently limit access to your data. If an app password is compromised, it cannot be used by a different application, or on a different device.
App passwords also give you a way of checking suspicious activity on your CloudStor account. You can view a list of the app passwords you’ve created, and the approximate time each was last used.
Set an app password for a device or application
Warning: Once you create an app password and click Done, CloudStor will not allow you to view the password again. Be prepared to copy it as soon as you create it.
- Open CloudStor in your web browser.
- Click
Settings in the top navigation bar.
- Click the Security tab on the side navigation bar.
- Enter a descriptive name for your app password that will remind you which app or device it’s used with - for example, iPhone App.
- Click Create new app password.
CloudStor will display your username and a randomly generated password that you can use to login to your chosen app. - Write down the password or copy it to your device clipboard.
Once you click Done there is no way to see this password again. If you lose your app password, you will need to create a new one.
Once your new app password is created, it will appear in your app password list. This list shows when the app password was last used to access CloudStor.
Revoke an app password
If your device is compromised or lost, or you stop using an app, you can delete the app password for it.
Warning: This change is permanent and can not be undone. To reconnect an app to your CloudStor account, you will need to create a new app password.
- Open CloudStor in your web browser.
- Click
Settings in the top navigation bar.
- Click the Security tab on the side navigation bar.
CloudStor will display a list of app passwords, for each one showing the descriptive name you set and the most recent login using it. - Click
Disconnect next to the app password you want to remove.
