The CloudStor desktop app can recreate your CloudStor drive on your local device. As you - and potentially other people - edit your files, it can update those changes in the cloud and on your local drive. This is known as file synchronisation, and you can configure it to meet your needs.
Use virtual files instead of downloading content immediately
CloudStor will keep a local virtual listing of all your drive folders and files. When you want to view or edit a file, CloudStor will download a copy from the cloud for you to work on. Once you’re finished with it, CloudStor will update the cloud copy and change the local copy back to a virtual listing.
Virtual file listings only take up space on your drive when:
- You open or edit them.
- You choose to keep an offline copy available.
- CloudStor is waiting to copy local changes to the cloud.
If you add a file to your CloudStor folder, CloudStor will add it to your cloud drive and then change the file to a virtual listing.
If you delete a local virtual file, CloudStor will delete it from your cloud drive.
It’s important to note that this option means you need access to the internet whenever you look at or work on your CloudStor files. If your internet connection is unreliable, consider using the Synchronize everything from server option instead, or selecting individual files or folders to keep offline copies of.
Benefit: Uses less disk space.
Drawback: You need access to the internet to work on your files.
Synchronize everything from server
CloudStor will keep local copies of every folder and file on your cloud drive. When a file is changed on your local drive or the cloud drive, CloudStor will update it accordingly.
Benefit: You don’t need access to the internet to work on your files.
Drawback: Uses more disk space.
Manually create folder sync connections
CloudStor won’t automatically keep a local listing, whether virtual or real, of every folder and file on your cloud drive. Instead, you can later choose individual folders or files that you want CloudStor to synchronise
Benefit: Uses less disk space than the Synchronize everything from server option.
Drawbacks: Can be fiddly to set up; you can end up with files out of sync if you don’t include all the files you need.
