AARNet is decommissioning CloudStor at the end of 2023.
With CloudStor’s underlying software and platform architecture reaching end of life and requiring a significant investment to rebuild, as well as large, commercial vendors now offering equivalent cloud services, we’ve made the decision to decommission CloudStor. AARNet will continue to focus resources on providing high quality solutions that meet the specialised future needs of the research and education sector.
To help you transition to alternative services, throughout 2023 we’ll be making progressive changes to CloudStor and its associated services.
Note: this timeline does not apply to institutions with a CloudStor Enterprise Agreement.
Here’s a brief summary of the timeline:
3 April 2023
We TURNED OFF:
- Creating new users and group drives in CloudStor.
- Bulk downloads from CloudStor accessed through a web browser. You can still download individual files through a web browser, and perform bulk downloads using the CloudStor desktop app or a command line interface tool, such as Rclone.
- The CloudStor Rocket large dataset upload tool.
We MODIFIED:
- FileSender is now a standalone service at https://filesender.aarnet.edu.au.
- Non-expiry FileSender vouchers expire in a maximum of 40 days. All issued non-expiry vouchers will be set to expire on 13 May 2023.
- SWAN notebook lifespan – instead of keeping idle notebooks open for 5 days, we’ll shut them down after 48 hours.
We ADDED:
- Read-only mode in CloudStor. Read-only ensures that data doesn’t change before download or migration from CloudStor drives is finished. If your account is not set to read-only, contact your institution's IT group or cloudstor@aarnet.edu.au to set it for you.
What you need to do
- If you have already downloaded your data or no longer require your CloudStor user account, use Delete My Account to have your account disabled and queued for deletion.
1 July 2023
We ADDED:
- Request All My Data feature for individual and group drives.
- Delete My Account feature, which will disable your account and queue it for deletion after 15 December, 2023. This will also stop you receiving further emails related to CloudStor.
What you need to do
- If your account is not set to read-only, contact your institution's IT group or cloudstor@aarnet.edu.au to set it for you. You MUST activate read-only mode if you want to use the new Request All My Data feature. Read-only ensures that data doesn't change before download or migration from CloudStor drives is finished.
- We recommend you use these tools to download your files if you have more than 2 TB of data or folders containing more than 500,000 files. Email cloudstor@aarnet.edu.au if you require assistance.
- If you have already downloaded your data or no longer require your CloudStor user account, use Delete My Account to have your account disabled and queued for deletion.
15 December 2023
We’ll:
- Start removing CloudStor accounts.
What you need to do by this date
- Download your user data from CloudStor.
- Update all external links pointing to files previously available in CloudStor.
- Email cloudstor@aarnet.edu.au if you require assistance with downloading data from a drive larger than 2 TB or folders containing more than 500,000 files. We recommend you try downloading your files using these tools before contacting us.
If you have already downloaded your data or no longer require your CloudStor user account, use Delete My Account to have your account disabled and queued for deletion.
