AARNet offers connections to local Azure cloud servers in Sydney and Melbourne – two in each location. You can make use of these multiple connections to add redundancy to your system in case of a server failure.
Note: All VPN connections must be active. To ensure that each VPN uses its local Azure cloud server by default – so the Sydney VPN tries to connect to a Sydney Azure cloud server first, and only fails over to a Melbourne Azure cloud server if the Sydney servers aren’t available – assign a higher weight to each VPN’s local servers.
Scenario 1
Azure: Provisioned in Sydney only.
AARNet VPN: 2 services provided to the Sydney data centre for redundancy.
Alternatively, one VPN service and an internet connection with IPSec tunnel to act as the second connection.
Scenario 2
Azure: Provisioned in both Sydney and Melbourne for full georedundancy.
AARNet VPN: At least 1 service provided to each data centre.
