An endpoint is a network location that Globus can transfer files to or from.
There are two types of Globus endpoint that you can use:
- Personal: Available to all users, and designed to connect to server endpoints.
- Server: Usually set up by an institute or other organisation. Hosts files.
Personal endpoint: Can upload to a server collection and download from a server collection. If you have a Globus subscription, you can create collections on your personal endpoint and share them with others.
Server endpoint: Can act as a static location for collections to be available for modification and sharing. Administrators can create mapped collections; users can create guest collections, if this is enabled.
You can create an endpoint from a networked resource such as a server, personal computer or storage system. Once a server endpoint is set up, authorised users can access it through the Globus service, transferring files between it and their own Globus Connect Personal endpoint.
